Grassalco Expands Regionally with Guyana Office

Waterkant

NV Grassalco, Suriname’s state-owned mining enterprise, has formally entered the Guyanese market with the opening of GuySure Aggregate & Sands Inc., its first overseas sales office. The new operation enables direct supply of construction aggregates to Guyana’s rapidly growing infrastructure sector.

The Georgetown-based outlet strengthens Grassalco’s regional distribution network and supports CARICOM’s push for deeper economic integration. With Guyana experiencing increased demand for raw materials driven by oil-fueled infrastructure development, Grassalco’s entry offers a reliable, regional alternative to traditional aggregate imports.

This strategic expansion enhances operational efficiency for both countries’ construction supply chains by reducing import timelines and transport costs. It also positions Grassalco as a competitive player in the regional building materials market, leveraging its proven capacity in crushed stone and sand production.

For industry stakeholders, the move signals growing intra-Caribbean trade opportunities and highlights the role of mining-sector SOEs in cross-border market development. Grassalco’s presence in Guyana is expected to catalyze similar regional ventures from Surinamese and other CARICOM-based suppliers.
