Suriname Businesses Trained on EU Export Compliance

Surinamese companies targeting European markets have advanced their export readiness through a two-day EU Standards & Certification Workshop, organised by the Caribbean Export Development Agency and the Suriname Standards Bureau (SSB).

The workshop provided manufacturers, exporters, and business support organisations with essential knowledge on the European Union’s strict regulatory requirements. Key focus areas included food safety protocols, product labelling, sustainable packaging, and mandatory certifications such as HACCP and ISO, which are prerequisites for entering EU supply chains.

Caribbean Export’s Executive Director, Damie Sinanan, highlighted the importance of compliance as a gateway to market access, noting that adherence to international standards enhances competitiveness and credibility. SSB Chairman, Tanwir Hassankhan, reinforced the message, encouraging businesses to view certification as a strategic asset in their growth and export expansion efforts.

Globally Cool, an international consultancy, facilitated the sessions through interactive group work, equipping participants with practical tools to begin or accelerate certification processes. Select businesses will undergo follow-up audits to assess operational gaps and receive tailored guidance for meeting export standards.

This initiative is part of a broader push to strengthen Suriname’s export capacity and integrate more local companies into international markets.
