Devon Gardner

Senior Partner, Institute of Innovation and Growth (IIG)

Dr. Devon Gardner is an established thought-leader in the field of science and technology, with specialization in the areas of climate and energy. At present, Dr. Gardner serves, inter alia, as Senior Partner at the Institute of Innovation and Growth (IIG). He joined the Institute in November 2024 after three years as the Head of Technical Programmes at the Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE), the energy-specialized agency for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

At the CCREEE, Dr. Gardner led a multidisciplinary technical team that implemented innovative and country-appropriate initiatives and projects and provided science-driven decision-support on complex issues, that contributed to accelerating the just energy transition in Member States.
Prior to his tenure at the CCREEE, Dr. Gardner served as Head of the Energy Unit at the CARICOM Secretariat for over seven years. Dr. Gardner also served as a Sustainable Energy Advisor within the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) between 2010 and 2014, and has held multiple appointments in academia, ranging from Senior Research Fellow to Professor in universities within the Caribbean and Europe.

Dr. Gardner holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics (2001) with specialization in numerical analysis and modelling from the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus) in Jamaica. He has over two decades of dedicated and reliable experience and expertise within the energy sector, spanning a deep understanding of molecular-level behaviour in such areas as hydrogen storage and fuel cells, to macro-level areas such as energy diplomacy, energy policy and regulations, energy planning, multi-criteria decision analysis. He is responsible for the design and implementation of several initiatives, policies, projects, and activities that promote the adaption of sustainable energy technologies and practices within the Caribbean.
