Andrew Baasaron, born October 23, 1973, in Paramaribo, Suriname, is an entrepreneur, engineer, and politician. He studied process and energy engineering at the HZ University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands before completing a master’s in mechanical engineering at Oklahoma State University, specializing in thermal systems. In 2007, Baasaron founded AMPS Engineering, which has since grown into a regional firm with operations in Suriname, Guyana, and Curaçao, employing around ninety people. Passionate about education, he has served as lecturer, dean, and coordinator in technical studies. Politically, he is affiliated with DOE and has been appointed as Suriname’s Minister of Economic Affairs in 2025.
